Basic
speed
tests
The
following
tables
give
approx
full-speed
performance
of
different
instruction
sets
for
some
basic
architectures
of
interest
to
me,
at
least.
Note
that
in
modern
superscaler/superpipelined
architectures,
register
access
and
memory
access
is
within
a
few
percent
given
the
memory
data
is
well-cached.
(In
most
of
these
tests
the
memory
is
"cached"
in
the
L1
TLB,
where
applicable).
In
high-performance
apps
registers
are
more
names
for
non-conflicting
chain
calculations,
than
just
simple
storage.
