What is Grabej ?

Grabej mean kitchen utensils, pans, containers in tunisian dialect. Anyway Grabej is a program which helps you reorganizing or simply getting informations on your files. Grabej list files recursively or not of a 'path' and filter them with a 'filelet' which rely on 'tags'. Then it pass the matching files to an 'action' with 'parameters' you give. An instance of this process is called a 'profile'. It could be 'interactive' which is much more safe and 'verbous' or simply 'Quiet'. Grabej is a free software under GNU GPL (version 2) see FSF for more details.

Okay, but what does that mean for me in a real world ? Simple, it make the world nicer. Here examples:

Download

Grabej depends on Python >=2.3 and mmpython framework. If your distribution (debian by e.g.) don't provide package for mmpython, download it and compile it from source. You will need additionnaly libdvdread3-dev.

Piece of design explained

Grabej is composed mainly by 4 modules.

• profiles.py: manage the profiles, save and load them, provide interface
• actions.py: load the actions, and provide access to them
• set.py: load a profile and from the actions fetch the action asked by the profile instance, then list files and call tags to generate tags.
• tags.py: generate tags from file's stat and or mmpython tags.

Future

• Make the actions object oriented
• Create stand alone applications (organizing music and ghost tree) it implies an API to develop stand alone actions
• Create a daemon mode that monitor files which changes and update the cache in consequence
• Use libextractor instead of mmpython
• Create a search feature "Beagle D-BUS API" compatible
